Welcome to the world of tiny insects. On many rivers, they are the gateway to big trout. The G-Midge in its varying colors and sizes will answer all midge hatches. It is the only midge pattern you need when trout start focusing on small, sub-surface midges and other tiny aquatic larvae.
In true Guide Flies style, Dave McKenna designed this midge pattern to match the slender profile of real midges. The G-Midge stands out when trout have already passed on your standard midge patterns like the zebra or disco midge.
Dave McKenna ties the G-Midge with the best nano sized materials to refract light and create a very realistic profile that trout instantly recognize as food.
Each G-Midge is tied with Semperfli premium materials including:
- Ultra thin Nano Silk for realistic profiles
- Micro Metallic Wire ribbing
- Micro Pearl UV Body Quill counter-wrapped for eye catching segmentation
- Custom blended UV Rainbow Dub and a pearl-core Killer Caddis glass bead for an irresistible emerging air bubble
Use the G-Midge as a dropper behind almost any dry fly on 6x tippet. Even when trout may turn down a different dry fly, they will gladly pick off a midge after a refusal.
- Drop a G-Midge in front of a heavy, attractor jig like the Rumble Bomb Perdigon. The jig will get the flies into the feeding lane fast. Regardless of what they are eating they will see the jig, chances are good they will eat that midge either way!
Meet the Guanaja Fly Tyers Guild. They are the primary supplier and designers for Guide Flies and the inspiration to pass on the art of fly tying to this incredibleisland community.
It started by recognizing the natural fly tying talent that existed in the community of Guanaja. The guides and family members of the Fly Fish Guanaja staff had learned the basics of fly tying and made creative flies for technical permit and bonefish that were not easily fooled.
Over the the last three years they have worked hard to perfect their craft. What began as an experiment in the beach front cabana, has turned into one of the greatest small business opportunities for the Island of Guanaja.
The team of fly tyers that make the Guanaja Fly Tyers Guild is instructed and led by Dave McKenna. They work daily to make the custom tied flies you can purchase through our website. They are self managed and work with an entrepreneurial approach to their business of fly tying.
Through the challenges of passing hurricanes and the Covid-19 pandemic, they have persevered and worked with pride to make the flies we offer here.
We all thank you sincerely for the support and orders that have helped bring the entire team through the hardest parts of the past year. We are very excited to share our newest flies and designs with you!
