The Guide Flies Chubby Chernobyl is the ultimate attracting floater. Made with 2 colors of crinkle hair for a buggier presentation, fish sees the black, we see the white, the ultimate duality.

Crinkle hair floats this fly through thick and thin river conditions, perfect for dry dropper rigs. We dub the body with a custom blend of micro rubber legs and high floating Antron.

Firehole Outdoor hooks make these Chernobyl prime for bigger game, barbless with a wider gap.  This season we introduced the tan, olive, and orange versions. Take a step off the beaten down path and try the Guide Chernobyl, it crushes!

ENTOMOLOGY

The Guide Chernobyl imitates dry stoneflies and grass hoppers. Early summer stonefly hatches bring the biggest dries to the river surface and this fly is perfect for golden, salmon, and olive adult stoneflies. Stonefly season rolls into hopper season and most river are abundant with another favorite trout food, the infamous grass hopper. Our olive and tan Chernobyl's cover most hopper variations that inhabit rivers all summer long and even into the Fall.

PRACTICAL APPLICATION

Our Guide Chernobyl's are incredible floaters because of the foam and crinkle hair. This fly goes through rapids and pops right back up to the surface. In addition to superior floating ability, this fly is high visible. The white crinkle hair is high visible in most situations, and we add a tuft of orange crinkle hair to the top making the high visible in all situations. This is the ultimate dry for floating droppers. This fly replaces the need for an indicator and can float as many droppers as needed. Our jig hooks with tungsten beads are perfect droppers for the Chernobyl and can achieve great depths. Next time a fish goes for your indicator, might as well make it a Chernobyl that gets eaten!

TESTIMONY

"Guides were impressed with this fly from Utah, Wyoming, and back to Colorado. We caught fish on it everywhere." Doug Brown, angler.

Meet the Guanaja Fly Tyers Guild. They are the primary supplier and designers for Guide Flies and the inspiration to pass on the art of fly tying to this incredibleisland community.

It started by recognizing the natural fly tying talent that existed in the community of Guanaja. The guides and family members of the Fly Fish Guanaja staff had learned the basics of fly tying and made creative flies for technical permit and bonefish that were not easily fooled.

Over the the last three years they have worked hard to perfect their craft. What began as an experiment in the beach front cabana, has turned into one of the greatest small business opportunities for the Island of Guanaja.

The team of fly tyers that make the Guanaja Fly Tyers Guild is instructed and led by Dave McKenna. They work daily to make the custom tied flies you can purchase through our website. They are self managed and work with an entrepreneurial approach to their business of fly tying.

Through the challenges of passing hurricanes and the Covid-19 pandemic, they have persevered and worked with pride to make the flies we offer here.

We all thank you sincerely for the support and orders that have helped bring the entire team through the hardest parts of the past year. We are very excited to share our newest flies and designs with you!
