Tactical nymphing, Czech nymphing, Euro nymphing, tight-line nymphing, high-stick nymphing, Indy nymphing, competition nymphing… there are many names for this style of fly fishing but they all have one thing in common, barbless, tungsten bead nymphs, are the core of modern nymphing tactics.

Since trout spend most of their time feeding in the bottom 1/3 of the water column, Guide Flies signature nymphs are designed to get down and deep fast. Each fly we tie is built with subtle triggers that consistently put big trout in the net.

Our unique background in fly design, guiding and competitive angling gives our flies a hybrid style that is hard to imitate. Dave McKenna's flies utilize modern resins, UV reflective materials and high quality natural materials to create some incredible flies that trout don't hesitate to eat. In fact, we prefer to tie most of our mayfly nymphs and caddis on barbless jig hooks with slotted tungsten bead heads for better hookups, less snags and more time fishing in the strike zone!

We use the best hooks and highest quality beads and materials to design our nymphs. The threads, dubbings, wires, tinsel, and synthetics are sourced from Semperfli in the UK.

We also to keep things simple for you on the water. We pack each kit to cover most nymphing scenarios and work in tandem. A custom Guide Flies Euro Nymph kit is the best guarantee that you will have exactly the right flies for any riffle, pocket, or pool. These flies work great with a long 10'-11' nymphing rod and sighter leader or under a traditional indicator.

Meet the Guanaja Fly Tyers Guild. They are the primary supplier and designers for Guide Flies and the inspiration to pass on the art of fly tying to this incredibleisland community.

It started by recognizing the natural fly tying talent that existed in the community of Guanaja. The guides and family members of the Fly Fish Guanaja staff had learned the basics of fly tying and made creative flies for technical permit and bonefish that were not easily fooled.

Over the the last three years they have worked hard to perfect their craft. What began as an experiment in the beach front cabana, has turned into one of the greatest small business opportunities for the Island of Guanaja.

The team of fly tyers that make the Guanaja Fly Tyers Guild is instructed and led by Dave McKenna. They work daily to make the custom tied flies you can purchase through our website. They are self managed and work with an entrepreneurial approach to their business of fly tying.

Through the challenges of passing hurricanes and the Covid-19 pandemic, they have persevered and worked with pride to make the flies we offer here.

We all thank you sincerely for the support and orders that have helped bring the entire team through the hardest parts of the past year. We are very excited to share our newest flies and designs with you!
